My sisters keeper, Jodi Picoult, cycle 18 reading response, 15-350

Anna has filed a lawsuit against her parents for the emancipation to the rights of her own body. Her mom is trying to deny that her daughter is really going to follow through with it. She tries to compromise with her daughter and her daughter’s lawyer, Alexander Cambell. Brian, Anna’s dad has accepted that it is the right thing for Anna to make her own decisions. Meanwhile, Mr. Cambell has hired an ad litem to observe Anna and her family to figure out if Anna is ready to make her own decisions. The ad liten, Julia, has had a romantic history with Mr. Cambell. Meanwhile, Jesse is still lighting fires, before he is found out by his dad. Anna has moved into the fire station so that her decision cannot be swayed by her mom.
Kate is still dying.
At the court hearing, when Brian is speaking, he changes his mind and decides that Anna is not old enough to make her own choices, this is bad news for Mr. Cambell. Now he is wondering what Julia will say at her hearing.
Anna is hurting inside because she knows that either way, she has to lose. Either she loses her rights, or she loses her sister.
This book is a connection to someone else’s life. It is so easy to relate to all the characters because they are so human. It speaks through the minds of each different character so that we see all of the different points of views. The favoritism of the mother for Kate, the fair yet torn thoughts of the father, the pain of Anna, the invisibleness of Jesse, the forgetten child, and the confusing love between Alexander and Julia.
